Just Can't Get Enough of the Olympics!

The two weeks of the 2010 Olympics are turning out to be a huge party for not only the thousands of tourists who are visiting our fair city right now, but also for everyone who lives here!  The streets are packed downtown, day and night, and impromptu dance parties in Yaletown keep going to the wee hours in the morning.  There are Pavillions and "Houses" to visit, and free cultural events going on all day every day.  It's been a total blast!

What do you think?  Is it packed enough for you??

Lots of Red at the Olympics!  Go Canada!

Yaletown at night - this was taken on Friday night outside LiveCity stage where Deadmau5 was playing.

I took a video of just one of the dance parties happening on the street - Yaletown was on fire!  I've never, EVER seen it so crowded!  What a good time it was!

(Talking about Vancouver's Street Dance Parties - check out this link for the Flashmob on Robson Street! http://vimeo.com/9451898)

After that, I crossed the street and went to Rodney's Oyster Bar to meet Sonny and Donna, who were going to be my dates for the evening.

Destination: The Steve Angello concert at Gossip Nightclub!

The concert was great!  Steve plays progressive house music, and it was a sold out show!
I'm attaching a youtube clip of this too, but my camera automatically adjusts itself when it hears super loud music - therefore, some of it is going to be quiet.  APOLOGIES!  It's the camera! It's not me!  :)

Donna, Sonny, and Me

Taking a break (sore feet!)

After the show at 3:00 a.m., we walked back into Yaletown - Sonny's friends had told him about an afterhours party in a warehouse in Yaletown.  Donna and I were game!  What a great little party that was!  The DJ was playing deep house.  The people were really cool.  This party space is going to be held each night during the Olympics.  I'm going back this weekend for sure!

My feet were sooo sore, but the music was so great, so I just kept on dancing.

Group Shot - it was a great evening!  Thanks for being our escort, Sonny!

I can't divulge the actual time of day we did the "Walk of Shame" at, but let's just put it this way: the sun was shining and the Yaletown Party Scene was getting going again... yes!!  I have to admit it was an awesome weekend.  Times like these don't happen every weekend, thank goodness, and it makes it even more special and fun when it does.

Later on Saturday afternoon, Donna and I grabbed an Americano and walked around False Creek to Granville Island.  The trees are in bloom here in Vancouver, which indicates a very warm and early spring!  We love it when the trees blossom in February!

Granville Island is just as busy as downtown!

Crowds watch street performers on Granville Island

We thought we'd check out the Swiss House, but the lineup was at least two hours long.  Same goes for the Atlantic Canada House...

In Valencia they had Calamari Sandwiches.  Here in Vancouver, we eat OYSTER BURGERS!!
Yum Yum!

The new Convention Centre downtown, decked out for the Olympics

Just can't get over the amount of people that are walking and celebrating in the streets!  Unbelievable!

We just had to go and see the Olympic Flame!

We actually did try to get into the German House, but the lineups... oh god, the lineups!  We decided to skip it for that night. Hopefully I'll get a chance to check it out this week, along with as many of the other pavillions and sites that are open to the public until the end of the Olympics!  It's an amazing time right now in this city.  Originally I didn't want anything to do with the Olympics.  But now I can say that I'm glad I've been here to be a part of it!  What a cool time it is to be living in Vancouver.

That's the update for now!  More to come soon!
